The Faculty of Notaries Public in Ireland

The Faculty of Notaries Public in Ireland (the ‘Faculty Company’ or the ‘Faculty’) is an incorporated body limited by guarantee, incorporated in Ireland on the 13th March 1981 with company number 81632, having as its objects the promotion, advancement and regulation of the profession of Notary Public in Ireland. The day-to-day affairs of the Faculty are managed by the Dean and the Registrar who report to the Board of Directors and the General Meeting. The Faculty provides information to Notaries Public, Solicitors and the public in general on matters within its province and in particular as regards aspects of notarial practice and procedure in Ireland.

The Faculty participates in the Common Law Association of Notaries (C.L.A.N.) which has succeeded the World Organisation of Notaries (W.O.N.) of which the Faculty was involved in the unauguration in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin, Ireland in March 2010. C. L. A. N. is now based in Dublin.

The legal status of the Faculty Company is that of a company limited by guarantee not having a share capital, the word ‘limited’ being omitted from its name by licence of the (then) Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism. The Company was registered in Ireland on 13 March 1981 under the Companies Acts 1963 to 1977 with Registration Number 81632. Its registered office is at Prosperity Chambers 5/6 Upper O’Connell Street Dublin 1
